A Coastwatch volunteer never knows when they may come across a person who may need First Aid. This can be anything from a small cut to a person who has been thrown from a horse or someone who has stopped breathing altogether.
All Coastwatch volunteers are trained to BHF BLS (Heartstart) as a minimum and from there have the opportunity to take further training. Our volunteers will be taught outdoor First Aid too. First Aid kits are carried in all Grab/Patrol bags so help is always at hand. A qualified First Aider will never be far away and will always be able to be contacted by radio whether at our headquarters in the Beach Pavilion, or elsewhere in the beach area.
A First Aid treatment facility is located within the Beach Pavilion (our Beach Base Station) should it be required. This facility forms part of our joint partnership with the Safer Shores Project.
We also frequently work closely with HM Coastguard, the Scottish Ambulance Service and other Rescue Services.
Provision of First Aid Cover for Events
Coastwatch Scotland (Irvine) can provide First Aid cover for events if notice is given and we are able to cover the event ensuring our own monitoring commitments are covered.
A charge will be made depending on the number of first aiders and time required.
We have covered various events in the past from town parades, national cycle events and other sporting events. All First Aiders are trained to a high level through the Coastwatch/NUCO training programme and carry a range of First Aid equipment when they are on patrol.
If you need First Aid cover for an Indoor/Outdoor event please let us know and we will see if it can be arranged. However, we cannot promise that we can cover all events that are asked of us as we are especially busy during the period April through to Sepember.
